FALL PROTECTION
This course provides classroom instruction and hands-on training for employees exposed to fall hazards in construction or general industry work. It is designed to meet the training requirements of 29 CFR 1926.503 and 29 CFR 1910.30, addressing hazard recognition, fall protection systems, and safe work practices. Participants learn to identify fall hazards, select and properly use fall protection equipment, and understand the procedures for minimizing fall hazards, followed by a practical skills demonstration and performance evaluation. Successful completion supports employer certification of the employee's training for the specific equipment, systems, and workplace conditions encountered.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Recognize fall hazards in the work area, including unprotected edges, holes, floor openings, and leading edges
- Identify the correct fall protection system for a given task — guardrails, safety nets, fall restraint, or fall arrest
- Select, inspect, don, and properly use a full-body harness, lanyard, and connecting hardware
- Explain the components of a personal fall arrest system, including anchorage, connectors, and deceleration devices
- Calculate and apply fall clearance distances to prevent contact with a lower level
- Identify proper anchor point criteria, including minimum strength requirements
- Describe procedures for the assembly, maintenance, inspection, and disassembly of fall protection systems used by the employee
- Understand rescue procedures and the hazards of prolonged suspension trauma following a fall arrest
EVALUATION AND CERTIFICATION
Each employee's performance is evaluated in the workplace by a competent person. The employer certifies that each employee has received the required training. The certification record includes the name of the employee, the date(s) of the training, and the signature of the person who conducted the training.
